Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend, by Matthew Dicks

April 3, 2014 by bex Leave a Comment

memoirs of an imaginary friendThis wholly original, whimsical novel grabbed me from the first page: “My name is Budo….Max gave me my name…Max’s parents call me an imaginary friend…I am not imaginary.”

Observant, philosophical and compassionate, five-year-old Budo tells his story, which is really the story of Max, a young boy with Aspergers struggling to navigate the social niceties of elementary school and the love he feels for his parents. I highly recommend this hilarious and deeply moving book, with tones of “Room” and “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.”
